A form of expression
I’m often asked why do I blog. The question often comes as a result of talking about some of my creative activities whilst in a get-to-know-you situation. And I often sense an underlying inference that it could be a waste of time, or even perhaps a dangerous activity. I expect it could be something dangerous to those who are not used to expressing themselves in a free manner, without fear. The current Wiki-leaks fiasco is an example of engaging in truly dangerous affairs in the global conservative climate that prevails at present. In this instance, I would not wish to be Julian Assange, despite his courage!
In fact, someone recently said to me that they are afraid to blog! I couldn’t understand it, but, perhaps, just perhaps, they may be remembering the not-so-good times of the Second World War in their French homeland, they being a person in their late 70’s. Often, that sort of experience colours one’s idea of what it is okay to be free about, and what is best left unsaid and trying to fit in. Often, I feel that that is a compromise not worth making. One must be true to oneself, in a smart way, and, therefore, be of real use to your society.
Expressing oneself in a free manner and without fear does not necessarily mean losing one’s common sense in the process. Of course, ‘common sense’ is quite a rare thing, and is only gained through much experience of making life mistakes and knowing what does/does not work. Common sense, I believe, is a major part of good judgement and you don’t develop good judgement by being a wimp. Life is to be lived, not to be stuck away under a rock somewhere and only coming out at night, when no-one can see you. Life then is very pale, for obvious reasons.
So, why do I blog? For me it is a form of expression. An opportunity to speak my thoughts, and expose my feelings, about those subjects that are of personal interest to me. An opportunity to express in a manner different from the usual experience of writing business letters or reports and office procedures manuals. An opportunity to tap into the more creative inner self and bringing the results to light. Sometimes the writing works, when I feel a real connection to the subject, especially when it has been building for many years and, hopefully, produces a little insight for me, as well as others, based purely on my own unique experiences and after much reflection. It is my world view, the negative and the positive, after many years’ of living. If a response is received, then I’m glad the piece has resonated for someone other than myself. Along with displaying my amateur experiments with photography, blogging for me is a must-have medium of self-expression that I need to live; it is a part of who I am.
Happy dolly
It’s quite a serendipitous thing when one finds objects that go together.
I was walking at the water’s edge of Albert Park Lake, which is near my home, when I came across Happy Dolly in ‘her’ chair. She had chosen it well as its colour fit her costume very well, don’t you agree.
Here’s another one of Happy Dolly in a wider format. Enjoy!
Gelato
Summer has gone, I know. But, as a lover of ice cream (refer to my post If it’s not fun…), I am able to enjoy that wonderful dairy product, and share that enjoyment, throughout the whole year. I hope you do, too! Here are some images I took during the Summer just gone. The flavours are pistachio, lemon and chocolate. It was truly delicious. Enjoy!
And I hope you can appreciate the pure luck of what I also captured in the following pic:
